Jeff Feehan's Cabarete Windsurfing Log

On my first trip to Cabarete I kept a log of the equipment I used. I had no particular reason for doing this, other than perhaps thinking that it would help me remember what I liked when it came time to buy new gear. In any case, the following year I did the same the thing, and the year after that, and so on until it got to the point that I had to continue. Anyway, if you are thinking of going to Cabarete, my log may give you an idea of what wind strengths you can expect - as long as you go in March.

In cabarete, the wind is typically light in the morning, and increases to sailable strength sometime between about 12:30pm and 1:30pm. In general, if it becomes sailable, it will stay that way until at least 6:00pm or so.

The log shows that over 6 trips, I have had a total of 59 possible sailing days. Of these, 41 - or about 70% were sailable on a short board for at least 1 hour. 29 days, or about 50%, were sailable on a 6.2 or smaller - meaning that they became windy enough for me (160 lbs/72kg) to use dedicated wave sails and wave or bump/jump boards.

For a more detailed description of the sailing conditions at Cabarete, as well as more general information about the town, accomodations, and other activities, check out my Windsurfing at Cabarete page.
